Letters are back

I have attached the letters via PDF.  Everybody should have a copy of this in their e-mail, but here's another for your reference.

Lynn McCool Notes on Letters

I reviewed the materials you forwarded.  Sorry I missed the first meeting.

I assume we have decided that our major emphasis spending will go to
these schools, and our challenge is to decide if we can fund all or just
part of the needs identified.

With that in mind, it seems we need to know how much we have available
(either specifically or a general $ range).  Then...

Tammie Pride's Notes on the Letters

I had a chance to review the info that was returned from the schools.    I think the swing  for the Special Ed Class, Tv and Vcr/Dvd player and stand for Memorial would be good investments that the schools would be able to use long term.   Once these are provided and depending on our funds I think would should give the others the clothing, toys etc.    Schools...

Sarah Virgin's Take on the Letters

In reading the requests, I feel as though the committee, as well as the board, should look at this project like an investment, instead of the focus of a “quick fix” to situations.

I would like to see the Kiwanis group purchase the swing for Memorial school.  It is going to be an item that will still be available for students to use ten years from now.  In addition, students with...

Decisions

The Major Emphasys committee met on 1-4-06 at the 5&10 in Paris.  The committee decided that we would have JoAnn and Sarah write and hand deliver a letter concerning the needs of the Pre-K classes.

The committee decided that we would sponsor extra "underwear" for every classroom and have a will-call replacement policy.

Also, the committee decided that we would...

Willis Center Information

I spoke with Jan Poynter at the Willis Center Tuesday.   She had several ideas for us.  She said they could always use an extra pair of hands in the class room, filed trip help, helping with activities and also reading to them.

She said that they  are involved with shop-cop and brotherhood.  They are always in need of extra clothing to have at school in case of accidents. ...

Willis Center Information

I would be up for being a chaperone for field trips...  Not much for the individual reading because of how much time it would take to cover the estimated 350+ kids for our project.

Other ideas!

Headstart

Hi Blaze,

I talked to Sue Hendrix who is the Head Start teacher at Chrisman and she put me into contact with the Family Service Worker, Teresa, who explained that the biggest need they would like to have is volunteers.  People who will come in and read books, possibly provide a food experience for the children during the parent meeting that is held monthly.  The food experience could be...

Child Project concerns

I love the idea, but to touch 300+ kids we would have to have our whole regular meeting club do an hour a piece for 6 hours to do it.
If we can get small groups possibly, we may be able to get some ideas out.  But I feel this isn't doing what we need.

Are you planning on being at the meeting?

Crestwood and Grace Lutheran

I just received info form 1st Chrsitian Church that they are giving out FREE coats, mittens and hats to children  of all ages that need them for this winter.  Times are Nov 17 3-6PM and Nov 19 11-2 at the church.  They are giving the flyers to all schools with small children to make sure all are served (that includes Head Start).

On the other things we talked about today. ...
